To uninstall the Accoona Search Assistant:
1. Close all open Internet Explorer browsers first.
2. From the computer desktop, click on the Start menu in the lower left hand corner, and select Run from the box that appears.
3. In the run box, type in "regedit" in the box that appears to the right of the word "Open" (see below).
This opens up the registry editor.
4. Drill down to the location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Accoona\Search Assistant. Right Click on the Search Assistant folder and select "Delete" from the box that appears. This will delete the Search Assistant folder.
5. Drill down to the section HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search and double click on the CustomizeSearch Name on the right hand side of the box.
6. Copy the value data highlighted in the Edit String box that appears by right-clicking on the highlighted blue area and selecting Copy from the box that appears.
7. Click on OK to exit.
8. Double-click on the SearchAssistant Name in the same box. The SearchAssistant Name box will appear.
9. In the value data box, right-click and select paste from the box that appears.
This will result in the CustomizeSearch value being pasted in the Value data box for the SearchAssistant (see below).
10. Click on OK to exit and save the new value, and exit the registry editor.
11. Launch the Internet Explorer browser again and click on the Search button. The Search Companion should appear.
12. Go to “My Computer” and choose the C: Drive.
13. Go to the “Program Files” folder in the window.
14. Delete the folder which says “Accoona”
15. Start up Internet Explorer, and the Search Assistant will be gone.
