1. Obtain a copy of the irbus.sys, irbus.inf, and irbus.pnf files from a Windows XP Pro SP1 install. I tried pulling these from the MCE 2003 disc, but that didn't work...probably because the ones on the 2003 disc were not from SP1, but I'm not sure abou
t this...
2. Plug in your remote sensor.
3. Uninstall any drivers that may be associated with your remote control via device manager.
4. Unplug your remote sensor.
5. Reboot.
6. Copy irbus.sys to c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers and c:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386
7. Copy irbus.inf and irbus.pnf to c:\WINDOWS\inf
8. Reboot
9. Plug in your remote sensor.
10. The remote sensor should now be recognized properly from a driver perspective (i.e. no more code 10 error in device manager). Also, the MCE remote control setup wizard will now at least see the remote. However, the remote will not work -- MCE doesn
't actually receive button presses.
11. Windows Update. Install the critical update that should now be available for the remote control software.
12. Reboot.
13. Start MCE. Run remote setup wizard. Everything should work now.
