Asus A7V Instability RESOLVED

The instability of the A7x is well documented in the ASUS netnewsgroup.

After some effort the A7Pro runs smootly, very stable and fast using the
following procedure.

But this is ONLY for Windows 2000...
AND ONLY if you have stability problems using 3D apps.

1) Install the APG and INF driver from 4in1 from VIA:
www.via.com.tw/drivers/index.htm

2) Install nVidia reference drivers (if nVidia card):

3) Install the AMD-Microsoft-W2K fix:
www.amd.com/products/cpg/athlon-duron/amd_win2k_patch.html

4) Reboot & test

Thats it! Especially step 3) is of paramount importance. W/O step 3)
always crashes within 2 hrs, W step 3 no crash after 12 hrs (using Evolva
Rolling Demo). After step 3) the A7Pro is very stable using BIOS settings
OPTIMAL, FSB=110, MEM=143@CAS222. Of course, AFTER this you can also crank
up the GeForce (www.geforcefaq.com). Good luck and happy landings.

About step 3: According to AMD and Microsoft this is a general problem with
any AGP card. So do not hesitate to use this if you have another video
card.

(There is no need to install the Microsoft AGP driver as documented in the
ASUS newsgroup, as this drivers just replaces the very needed 4in1 driver
from step 1.)
