Inleiding

Bet On Soldier is weer eens iets anders dan de normale knal maar wat af game. In Bet On Soldier is het oorlog, een wereldoorlog wel te verstaan. 3e wereldoorlog? Nee, nog steeds de eerste. Waarschijnlijk is iemand vergeten de afvlagging te doen en het is nu tot zover gekomen dat niemand meer weet waar ze precies voor moeten vechten.

Uitleg

Deze oorlog wordt gedomineerd door 3 corporaties die tegen elkaar vechten, 2 hiervan vonden het tijd voor amusement en hebben vrede gesloten tussen beide en hebben een soort competitie opgericht genaamd Bet On Soldier waarin je kunt wedden op soldaten. Je zult op jezelf of iemand anders kunnen wedden. Naarmate je in de wereld loopt met je 3 andere squadmaatjes en een enemy tegenkomt zal de wereld om je heen even afgesloten zijn zodat niemand je kan storen. In tegenstelling tot veel First Person Shooters is dit niet even gauw een headshot maken en op naar de volgende. Hier zul je te maken hebben met echte taktieken, en de rambo uithangen zal niet veel zin hebben. Van het geld dat je wint zul je bijv. betere wapens en bepansering kunnen kopen om steeds hogerop te komen en tegen betere vijanden kunt strijden.

Locaties

Europe The battlefields of Europe serve as a harsh introduction to a world ravaged by war. Towns built in deep trenches and military installations adorn the landscape, interspersed with killing fields, bunkers and ruins. If there is a hell on earth this is probably it! Alaska It may feel like nothing could survive in this frozen wasteland, but nothing could be further from the truth. Large military garrisons are situated between perilous ice flows and cavernous mountains. You'll have to keep your wits about you as a winter wonderland this certainly isn't! Cuba Admire the countryside beauty of Cuba at your peril as you fight through abandoned villages and giant fortresses. On your travels you'll also have to navigate war torn cities and labarynthian underground networks as you approach the grand palaces and the all important, not to mention a little dangerous, B.o.S arenas!

Wapens

Melee These weapons can be used with a shield. Dagger: Cheap and very effective at close range. Upgrade: Long Blade, adds a longer blade increasing the range of attack. One-Handed These weapons can be used with a shield. Pistol: Cheap and accurate, but low clip size. Upgrade: Dum Dum Clips, adds two armour piercing dum dum rounds into each clip, which explode on penetrating the opponents body causing greater damage. Small Machine Gun: Very effective at close range but not very powerful, and has a high firing rate. Air Pump Gun: Very effective at close range and requires no ammo as it runs on compressed air, fires shots of 8 bursts. Upgrade: Compressed Air Booster, adds the ability to shoot several bursts in quick succession without reloading, but with reduced accuracy. Rifles Basic Rifle: Powerful and accurate, but with slow firing rate and low clip size. Semi-Automatic Rifle: Good accuracy and rate of fire make this a cheap milestone between one handed weapons and the higher scale rifles. Assault Rifle: Powerful and accurate, with a good firing rate. Upgrade: Grenade Launcher, adds a grenade launcher under the main barrel. Commando Rifle: Has a high rate of fire and good accuracy, excellent for medium range combat. Upgrade: Flash Attack, adds a very powerful light on the end of the main barrel which can be used to temporarily blind enemies. Sniper Rifle: Very powerful and accurate over long distances, comes equipped with a scope. Upgrade: Sight, adds a greater level of zoom to the scope. Additional Upgrade: Unit Detector, adds a red targeting reticule around enemies, especially useful at night. Heavy Weapons Missile Launcher: Very heavy but not very accurate, possibly the most destructive in B.o.S. Upgrade: Sneak Launcher, when pointed at an enemy or object, activating the sneak will set a designated target that each subsequent missile will travel towards. Heavy Machine Gun: Exceptionally high firing rate makes this gun very destructive but tends to overheat if use for prolonged periods. Upgrade: Cooler, allows for longer use, as it cools the weapon whilst in use. War Shotgun: Very destructive short range weapon. Has five barrels that fire in turn, with slow reload. Upgrade: Grouped Fire, allows all five barrels to be fired at once causing maximum damage. Gas Launcher: Used very much like a flamethower, can use many of the grenades as ammo (acid, incendiary, hallucinogen). Upgrade: Booster, increases the range of attack. Grenades Frag: Standard grenade useful for damaging large or multiple targets. Cluster: Composed of three smaller grenades, the first explosion separates them, then they all explode simultaneously. Hallucinogen: Releases a gas to confuse your enemies making you harder to target. Useable with Gas Launcher. Incendiary: Upon impact this grenade creates a wall of fire thats lasts for a brief time. Useable with Gas Launcher. Acid: Upon impact this grenade unleashes a quantity of acid that causes damage to enemies and armour. Useable with Gas Launcher. Lure: An inoffensive grenade that emits a noisy and flashy blast, useful for creating distractions. C4 Explosives: Highly destructive explosive triggered by remote control. Shields Small: Offers a wider field of vision but your head is left exposed. Light: The most common shield in B.o.S. Fairly weak but offering full body coverage. Snow: Similar to the light shield, but snow camouflaged. Heavy: A more robust, and of course costly, version of the light sheild. Armour Leather: Consisting of several layers of leather, offering little protection and requires regular maintenance. Light: Made from small metal plates, offering reasonable protection to the player. Heavy: Only the top B.o.S participants wear heavy armour. Provides good resistance to many kinds of attacks. Exo-Armour: The toughest armour going. The metal shell protects virtually every part of your body. The only downside being it'll slow you down somewhat due to its weight.

Multiplayer

Dit zijn alle classes die je kunt spelen met beschrijving erbij. Sniper A very fast and stealthy class, but ultimately quite weak. Best utilised at a safe distance from his enemies. Turtle Soldier This class is the only one that comes equiped with a riot sheild, thus making them fairly slow, but they are very efficient at defending areas or pushing through an enemies defense. Short Range This is the class for causing serious damge up close and personal. With a range of melee weapons and shotguns up for grabs, including in later levels the incredibly destructive 5 barrelled war shotgun! Assault The good ole' all rounder. Decent speed and a healthy asortment of weapons make this ideal for those not wanting to specialise too much. Heavy Soldier As the name implies this guy is slow, but armed to the teeth with the biggest guns known to the B.o.S universe. If mowing down groups of enemies with a gatling gun is your thing, then this is the class for you! Grenade Soldier A tough class to handle, but with frag, cluster, incendury, gas and acid grenades availble, they can play a vital role within a team. Engineer Similar to the assualt class but slightly weaker and the added ability to repair armour. These guys can be absolutely essential in a firefight as their repair speed increases with each level. Agent The Agent is very fast, very weak, and practically unarmed. They carry large scale explosives and as they advance through their levels can hack ticket markers up to 10 times faster than any other unit.

The whole economy is now based on war weapons, meceranies and those that take part in the B.o.S. program. How will the single-player game run? The single-player campaign follows a soldier by the name of Nolan Danewort as he tries to rise his way up the ranks of the B.o.S. Championship. He’s not in it for the money, he is in it for revenge and discover where he really comes from. How will the multi-player game run? The multi-player game will feature the usual Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, but will also include a new B.o.S. mode exclusive to Bet on Soldier. As well as featuring different maps for different amounts of players, different soldier classes and whole host of weapons. What is the B.o.S. mode in multi-player? B.o.S. mode works in the same way that a normal objective team game, where two teams need to take over certain sections of the map. Once certain ticket machines have been hacked, the hacker can place a bet on an enemy then the two will enter a duel to see who takes the money from the bet. Players keep going until a set score is met or time runs out with the team with the highest score wins. How many can play in one multi-player game? The maximum number of players for multi-player will be 32 players. Will I be able to host my own server for multi-player? Yes you will be able to host your own server as well with different types of server being able to run for both network and online games. How many different soldier classes will be in multi-player? There will be 8 different soldier classes in multi-player ranging from short-range soldier to, Heavy Soldier, Sniper, Engineer and more. How many different weapons will be in B.o.S.? There will be a total of 13 different weapons, spreading across different categories and with most being upgradeable making for a possibility of 40 weapons to use and rain destruction with. Can I regenerate my health and armour during play? Yes you can, via health and armour restore stations dotted around at different places on the maps. Does everyone have armour? Everyone does have armour, but they will be of varying strength. Light armour will allow players to move quicker, but will be equipped with less stronger weaponry, while heavy armour will allow players to heavy weaponry to rain death on their enemies, but will make them slower. What will be the minimum specification for Bet on Soldier? The minimum specification for Bet on Soldier is to be confirmed at the moment. When will B.o.S. be released in the U.K.? Ben ook erg benieuwd naar deze game. Op FPS gebied vind ik het een beetje stil sinds HL2. En S.T.A.L.K.E.R wordt ook alleen maar uitgesteld. Wel vraag ik me af hoe ze dat "wedden op een soldaat" gaan doen. Ik hoop dat dat echt wat toevoegd aan de game.

Maar het lijkt me een errug vette game. Zou ook eens tijd worden dat er een mooie shooter uitkwam. Ik verveel me de pleuris, en ik wil een game die mijn 7800GTX een beetje het vuur aan de schenen legt.

Maar ik zit met een probleem met de demo Zodra hij een stukje begint te renderen (Bij het ene level bij de deur die explodeert, en bij het andere level wanneer er zo'n groot bakbeest uit de loods komt) slaat de PC vast Voor de rest werkt het hier prima

Wtf! Hebben ze nu ook Starforce in een demo Waar slaat dat nu weer op.

Goede graphics, erg goeie AI en erg grappig dat je kan wedden om meer geld te verdienen. Ook leuk dat je zelf je wapenarsenaal kan kopen/bepalen. Voor de rest is het weer een standaard shooter. Misschien is de multiplayer nog wat, maar anders zie ik deze alweer snel in de budget-bakken verdwijnen.
Het is trouwens wel irritant dat als je door je wapens scrolled dat elke granaat apart wordt doorlopen.

Ja, op sommige punten misschien wel, maar er zit toch ook wel een tactische kant bij (Wel goed zoeken ) en dat maakt het ook wel weer leuk

De algehele feel bij deze demo is dat het niet af is, of niet gepolijst. Een lasnaad midden over iemands hoofd omdat het model niet goed afgerond is, is erg slordig en haalt de - in mijn ogen niet eens zo mooie - graphics omlaag. Voor de rest, alles voelt gewoon een beetje goedkoop aan, het is het gewoon net niet. Bijvoorbeeld de bop als je loopt, die is te simpel, te houterig. Het excuus om via een tv-match een tussenboss te plaatsen in de vorm van een champion, ... huh? Weg immersion... Tot slot, om zo'n champion uit te schakelen door in zijn robot te stappen en over hem heen te lopen vond ik ook wel apart... Er zitten ook redelijk wat bugs in (1x crash, 1x vastloper na een dodelijke val) maargoed, daar is het nog een demo voor zal ik maar zeggen.

Bet on Soldier: Blood Sport is a futuristic first person shooter filled to the brim with nonstop action. Taking the role of Nolan Daneworth, the hero will find himself battling as a part of an elite crew to avenge his fallen fiancé. Utilizing the KT graphics engine, Bet on Soldier will captivate you from the start with its unique blend of RPG, FPS, and strategy elements and will constantly keep you on the edge of your seat.

What is Bet on Soldier?

Bet on Soldier is a television show that broadcasts one-on-one fights between two soldiers who will participate in such shoot-outs in order to earn enough money to live. Before each level, you will have the option to select certain champions that you would like to challenge. As you encounter them across your journeys, the rest of the soldiers will leave the battlefield, leaving the two of you alone to fight. Aside from these televised matches, Nolan will travel along with a few members of his crew as well as they attempt to kill the masterminds behind this catastrophe. Depending on the way the game is played, the ending will not always be a happy one.





Technical Standpoint

The minimum requirements for Bet on Soldier are as follows:

Bet on Soldier utilizes the KT graphics engine with the Ageia physics engine. The graphics engine is state of the art, so obviously a lot of the lower end systems won't be able to even play this game. For those of us who can, however, you will be able to appreciate many graphical techniques, such as normal mapping, which gives this game its sharp look. The Ageia physics engine, used in the latest versions of the Unreal engine, is very lifelike. Not only do barrels bounce around as you would expect them too, but bodies also have a dramatically heavy feel once they've been shot. The recoil system used favors those who move less or crouch, and interestingly enough we noticed that incoming enemy fire will rattle your screen and make everything appear as a blur for an added touch of realism.





Visual Aspect

With the proper setup, Bet on Soldier is a visually stunning title. The system requirements can be a bit demanding, and while the graphics engine could use some tweaking, gamers with a high end system will have a lot to be happy about here. The particle effects, for the most part, feel as if they're coming to life right on the screen. Explosions from barrels, smoke from missiles, and the muzzle flash from an assault rifle have all been nicely crafted. Strangely enough, the blood effects are actually quite poor, and instead of resembling any type of liquid, blood pouring out of a body simply looks like some red splotches shooting out of a limb. Soft lighting effects have been implemented to give the world a vibrant appearance, but this tends to make the characters have an overly reflective appearance. For the most part, Bet on Soldier is definitely one of the better looking games for the PC, but its high demands and few quirks may make it unfavorable to some.

Audio Department

As in most first person shooter games, sound can be your most valuable weapon if used correctly. In Bet on Soldier, you will be immersed into an enthralling 3D sound experience, so it is recommended that you have a decent sound card and speaker system to help compliment the effects. The weapon sound effects have been developed with meticulous detail, and the explosions are guaranteed to make your room rumble. While any game in this genre can probably say the same for this, Bet on Soldier also pays careful attention to some of the smaller details. Effects such as hearing the ground crumble beneath your feet and the frantic shouting of a distant enemy area nice touch, and even the patter of bullets against your armor can be heard. The various battlefields are constantly overflowing with chaos, and the sound department does everything it can to support this.





Gamers. . . Place your bets!

Bet on Soldier takes the player through the mercenary career of Nolan Daneworth, so you will control his actions both on and off the battlefield. Before you enter a combat zone, you will have the opportunity to manage your funds by selecting your armor types, weapon loadout, and fellow comrades. As the game progresses new items can be unlocked in each genre, but from the start you will only have the bare bones equipment. For all of the CS 1.6 fans out there, Nolan can sport an extremely protective shield if you have the money to back it up. For weapons, you can choose one primary weapon, a secondary weapon, a melee weapon, and grenades. Primary weapons consist of some assault rifles, machine guns, rocket launchers, and other heavy machinery, while the secondary weapons include some lighter forces, such as double-barreled shotguns, sub-machine guns, and pistols. While the basic high explosive frag grenades are available, there are also other special grenades that can release a blazing inferno or toxic gas. When the time comes to select your team, you'll have the option to select from a few different teammate classes, such as an engineer or assault player. Each class has its own unique abilities; for example, the engineers can be called upon during battle to repair your armor. Lastly, depending on the level you can choose soldiers whom you would like to face throughout the level in the televised Bet on Soldier show. Each soldier has a different wager amount and skill level, so it can be a bit risky to fight against the more experienced players, especially when you're arsenal isn't fully developed.

Once everything is finally setup, it's time to enter the battlefield. Nathan not only participates in Bet on Soldier bouts, but he also has a set of objectives to complete in each mission if he wants to destroy the show once and for all. Some of his objectives will involve destroying enemy turrets, tanks, communication centers, and other things of that nature. As expected, the missions revolve around entering an enemy base, destroying hundreds of baddies, and then moving on to the next base. To help diversify things a bit, Nathan can pilot mech warriors with machine guns and missile launchers if he happens to come across one. The robot is a lot less agile than a soldier on foot and it certainly has a hard time finding cover, but its ability to fire the two weapons at once more than makes up for this. Whether you're on foot or in a machine, you will earn money based on how you kill your opponents. Pumping them full of lead in the chest will earn you the least amount of cash, while annihilating them with a headshot or torching them with the explosion of a barrel will reward you handsomely. You're rewarding for torturing your enemies in the most inhumane ways possible, so it's up to you to be creative regarding the demise of the opposition.

The gameplay mechanics are setup somewhat similarly to most other first person shooter games, but Bet on Soldier has a few unique elements that make it stand out from the crowd. For instance, instead of having access to any type of quick save method, you can only save at set locations for a costly fee. This prevents gamers from constantly saving around every nook and cranny, and it will more than likely make you act more conservatively regarding your plan of action. There are also repair terminals located sparsely that will allow you to purchase ammunition and repair your armor. Having an engineer on your team will allow you to have your armor repaired wherever you are, but if you don't happen to have one handy these repair stations will save you from losing your life.

Several times in each level, your team, as well as any leftover members of the opposing team, will exit the room to mark the beginning of a Bet on Soldier match. After a brief introduction of your opponent from a bothersome announcer, you'll have 60 seconds in which to bring your rival to his knees. Instead of being a total pushover, the other soldier comes equipped with heavy armor, massive weaponry, and a handful of tricks up his sleeve to give him the upper edge. While the concept behind this is promising, there are still a lot of bugs preventing it from being loads of fun. For starters, the 60 second time limit is simply too short, so instead of attempting to have any type of strategy you'll have to go all out right from the start, which can often result in death. To make matters worse, your opponents have regenerating shields that prevent damage and they can also make you go blind for a few seconds. While these battles certain encourage fast paced thinking and no holding back, often times they wind up being more frustrating than they are entertaining.

Just like any other game ever created, Bet on Soldier does have its fair share of flaws. The whole aiming interface feels a bit clunky and weighed down, so it can be tricky to take down snipers and rushing soldiers all in one clip. While the AI is impressive for the most part, there were times when we were able to walk inches away from them without them even noticing we were there. Your teammates also have a tendency to wander off on their own instead of sticking by your side, and you have very little control over them as it is. The terminal interfaces do take practice getting used to, and you might feel overwhelmed with the huge load of information thrown at you from the start. While these quirks don't take away from the gameplay considerably, there are still a few bugs that need to be worked out before Bet on Soldier can be considered an excellent game.





The future of Bet on Soldier

Bet on Soldier's single player campaign alone has a great replay value compared to most other first person shooters. Instead of having a linear storyline to follow where the outcome is always the same, the gamer will have the option to choose which environments they want to fight in and in what order, leading to a seemingly endless amount of possibilities. The computer AI is also sophisticated in terms of their strategy, so it is very unlikely that they will repeatedly go about the same plan of attack.

To make things even better, the online multiplayer mode has support for up to 32 players with 6 available character classes. Introducing a new mode to the online community, the Bet on Soldier online gameplay will involve two teams who will have to complete a set of objectives in order to gain control of the map. Afterwards, the Bet on Soldier battles will commence where the leading team will be able to choose which soldier they would like to go one-on-one with. Combining a need for teamwork with a dependency for veteran first person shooter gamers takes Bet on Soldier's multiplayer aspect a step further than other games on the market today, so you can be sure that the online community is going to thrive here.

In conclusion, Bet on Soldier: Blood Sport is a decent first person shooter with an interesting concept to say the least. The developers clearly set out to make this game as far from the mainstream as possible, and it manages to succeed here in some respects, but the gameplay fundamentals are still similar to a handful of currently available titles. Still, the futuristic theme, impressive visuals, and its ability to be replayed over and over again make Bet on Soldier a perfect game for anyone looking for something new.
