Design Engineer Message-oriented Middleware
Job description
The Design Engineer for our Message-oriented Middleware team is
responsible for designing, setting up, documenting and maintaining our
Message-based infrastructure, architecture and application
environments, installing and maintaining middleware software,
delivering high-level support to our development teams (including in
remote locations), and contributing to the definition of our
longer-term strategy regarding Messaging-related issues within the
company. He has a thorough understanding of Message-oriented systems,
and particularly, but not limited to, TIBCO products. He has extensive
experience with such products, best practices in a Message-oriented
Middleware environment, and the EAI (Enterprise Application
Integration) concept. His tasks include - but are not limited to - the
following:
 Contribute to the definition of the long-term strategy regarding
Message-based systems, including the definition of appropriate
guidelines and standards. Provide input regarding strategy, vision and
objectives in the area of Message-based systems.
 Provide state of the art consultancy services, both to Management
and to other stakeholders.
 Establish the necessary contacts at all levels aiming at long-term
relationships, both towards internal customers and external parties
(suppliers, service organizations, etc.). Establish and maintain
communication channels with others Belgacom Mobile teams, engineering
groups and vendors as well as adequate participation to corporate and
departmental projects.
 Define, analyze, review customer and project needs and expectations
with respect to Message-oriented issues, and propose adequate
solutions by using all means available within Belgacom Mobile.
 Monitor the efficiency and availability of message-based corporate
systems and take necessary corrective actions to improve these,
through a constructive cooperation with all involved parties.
 Business case approach: where applicable, prepare and defend
business cases to the internal organisation and customers.
 Third parties: propose and defend in a constructive way end-to-end
solutions, and manage relationships with third parties (internal
customers, service partners, suppliers, etc.).
 Design and engineer solid Message-based architectures, support
development activities. Assure the definition, implementation,
maintenance and support of key Message-based components and monitoring
tools, systems and processes, in support of development activities.
 Plan and execute updates of strategic middleware products, based on
technological and functional needs, and after an appropriate
assessment of the impact on the existing systems.
 Transfer the knowledge to the team. Assume buddyship and coaching
for new and existing team members and other identified parties.
Contribute to the creation of an environment that encourages
creativity, preventive behavior, skill building and sense of quality.
 Lead internal projects and participate in external projects.
 Keep knowledge of the technological evolution in the area.
 Reporting and planning: create, analyse and manage the opportunities
within the project portfolio, based on the agreed Operations Plan,
including strategy and mid/long term action planning. Ensure regular
and specific management reporting on Key Performance Indicators.
 Ensure that all actions are taken in full agreement with direct
management, and in accordance with confidentiality rules applicable
within Belgacom Mobile.
 Strongly contribute to contract negotiations with software
suppliers, when applicable, in collaboration with Management and
Purchasing.

 You ensure that appropriate escalations are done where necessary and
take care of the follow-up on them, together with your management.
 You ensure a correct hand-over regarding your activities, so as to
provide backup-knowledge within the team.
 You can analyse the impact of proactive requirements (suggested
improvements) and reactive requirements (impact of newly requested
requirements) on the existing Middleware products, environments and
infrastructure.
 You produce adequate reporting to your management.

Configuration experience in TIBCO IM and/or TIBCO BW
 Solid Unix knowledge, preferably Sun Solaris, ideally with good
experience in Unix shell scripting.
 Technical writing skills.
 Experience with managing a TIBCO ADMIN infrastructure.
 Proven experience required with Enterprise Application Integration
related issues.
 A proven background in large scale projects and project planning and
methodologies.
 Good networking knowledge.
 Ability and capability to work at a high level of abstraction while
still interested in "hands-on" activities.
 Willing to address the Messaging concept with a high-level vision
(helicopter view) so as to provide a long-term and corporate approach
to the Company.
Useful skills
 Good command of (XML) messaging: SOAP, ebXML, JAXM, MIME, XSL.
 Good knowledge of J2EE concepts.
 Good knowledge of HTTP protocol.
 Programming experience with TIBCO RV API and TIBCO SDK.
 Programming experience in Java and C++.
 Programming experience with XML and JMS in Java and C++.
 Architecture experience in a TIBCO BW context.
 Experience with configuration management.
 Knowledge of JRules/iLog.
Experience & Education
 Bachelor/University level or equivalent through experience.
 5-6 years of relevant experience.
