Ik draai een ubuntu-hoary met een 2.6.10-2 kernel; hiervoor 2.6.8.1
In 2.6.10 werkt de usb niet meer naar behoren, zeg maar gewoon helemaal niet. Het lijkt mij een groot en bekend probleem omdat ik niet over bijzondere hardware beschik: Athlon 64 op een via bord met een geforce 6600 (AGP) videokaart. Maar google levert bijzonder weinig op, bij ubuntuforums.org komt er ook niet bijzonder veel terug, net als GoT dus vandaar dat ik er toch maar een nieuw draadje voor start.

Ik heb de verschillende hcd's geladen (uhci,ohci,ehci) maar geen van 3en werkt helaas, verder heb ik ook de verschillende onboard usb hubs geprobeerd maar nog geen succes. Het enige naast de muis is een usb cardreader die ook niet meer herkent word/ wilt werken. Wat wel opvalt: het zijn beide low speed usb devices op een high speed hub.
Ik heb mn M3 nog niet getest; de M3 is wel een highspeed usb device; dit zal ik vandaag nog even proberen.
Stel dat het te maken heeft met lowspeed devices op een highspeed hub heb ik alsnog een probleem omdat mn moederbord geen usb1.1 hubs heeft (al mag dat uiteraard niet uitmaken omdat usb 2.0 backwards compatible zou moeten zijn ;))

heb je hotplug geinstalleerd staan ??
en verschijnt er een entry als je de mus eruit haalt en weer inplugged ???

Een draadje gevonden om m'n bevindingen te melden :) !

Okay, ik had soortgelijk gedoe met een usb-stick en heb eventjes wat gezocht. De issue is: er zijn twee strategieen om een adres toe te wijzen aan een usb-apparaat: de standaardmanier en de microsoftmanier (resp. 'oud' en 'nieuw'). Uit de sources:

Hier kwam ik achter met googlen; er werd gezegd dat je bij de module (welke PRECIES weet ik zo even niet, gebruik zelf geen modules) met een parameter old_scheme_first=y bij het laden ervoor kunt zorgen dat de driver probeert het op de pre-2.6.10-manier probeert te doen. Vergelijkbaar geldt voor use_both_schemes.

Ikzelf heb, omdat ik zo min mogelijk modules wil, gegrept in de source tree bij de usb-drivers en vond dit stukje in hub.c (daar komen die comments ook uit) :

Ik heb er hierboven use_both_schemes = 1; van gemaakt, ik heb de kernel image al gemaakt en geinstalleerd en zal morgen bij het starten ontdekken of dit de oplossing is, ik vermoed van wel. Aangezien je zelf modules gebruikt denk ik dat je met deze post en wat googlen en proberen het wel voorelkaar zult krijgen, succes :) .

/edit: patch gemaakt, die werkt iig met de 2.6.10 kernel sources die ik ge-apt-get heb (debian).

Okay, nu heb ik het goed gedaan, use_both_schemes hielp niet, old_scheme_first wel. De patch heb ik daar dus ook op aangepast :) .

Ik kan nu weer naar hartelust m'n tinydisk in- en uitpluggen :7
