FAQ (Engels)
What is War of the Roses?
War of the Roses is a team-based multiplayer melee combat experience. The game is set in medieval England between 1455-1485 and is based on the series of dynastic civil wars fought between the houses of Lancaster and York.
Does that mean there will only be two playable factions?
"Only the two, initially..."
Who is developing the game?
Fatshark. (The guys who brought you Lead and Gold and Hamilton’s Great Adventure.)
What platforms will the game be available on?
Windows (PC) only at release, (MAC to follow.)
Will the game be historically accurate?
The aim is to capture the overall look and feel of the War of the Roses and be as accurate as possible. However more attention is being put in to making, "a lovingly crafted and fun to play game".
How will the melee combat work?
"Melee combat uses four different types of attacks: left, right, down overhead, and thrust. To make an attack, you simply hold down the mouse button and move the mouse in the direction you want to strike. The longer you hold the button down, the more damage you'll do, but you'll have to be careful not to hold the pose too long, or your character will grow tired and your attacks will fail. Damage is determined by the base value of each weapon, the speed and location of your strike, and armor protection." Source
What perspective will the game be played from?
The primary focus is Third Person, however First Person is being looked at as well.
What unit types can we expect to see in the game?
Pretty much everything you would expect to see from the Middle Ages; Archers, Cavalry, Infantry.
Will armour and weapons break?
"All weapons and shields, except the dagger, have health points and armor values, just like a person or a horse. If you use a weapon to parry a blow, some of the damage might actually reduce the weapon’s health points to the point where it actually breaks." Source
Will there be a health regeneration system?
Yes. "The exact details could always be prone to change, but currently there's a timer that starts and when it reaches the heal point it starts to heal you faster and faster and faster. If you move, get hit, etc it all resets. The only realistic way of initiating it (unless somebody is guarding you) is getting into cover and hoping nobody stumbles upon you for time enough to regen. Basically it's for if you manage to wipe all your enemies and find a hiding place to recuperate."
Will there be a singleplayer game mode?
"The focus of the core gameplay is on the Multiplayer experience, but we will have an engaging and immersive story driven single player campaign designed to prepare and train players for the multiplayer experience. The single player campaign will give the players direct rewards to use in the multiplayer battles."
Will the multiplayer have a campaign map with towns and villages on it?
"As it is envisioned now, the game revolves mainly around the part where you hack peoples heads off." (Pretty sure that means no.)
What type of multiplayer game modes can we expect to see?
There will be a mix of team focussed and traditional game modes, (the game will release with Team Deathmatch and Conquest game modes.)
What will the max player limit be?
"Not decided just yet, the word Massive has been used in this context." (64 possibly)
Will there be any sort of character progression?
Yes, there will be character progression similar to that of Battlefield and Modern Warfare. "Players will get the chance to lead their warrior through a rich progression system, gaining upgrades and unlocking new content on their path from filthy peasant to unstoppable armored killing machine." "...The upgrades will mainly be like bling bling stuff..."
What are these "perks" I keep hearing about?
Perks are a way for players to specialise their character, weapon and armour to provide different benefits, (and hindrances.) So far there are 60 different perks that are divided into 5 basic categories. When you progress into one of these categories then you will be able to further specialise in that area, (ie buying into the cavalry category will allow you to progress on to selecting the heavy cavalry perk.) Perks will even allow for the player to unlock new abilities, such as the shield bash ability. Source
Will there be a match making system?
From what has been said it seems that there definitely will be some sort of match making system. How this will work is unknown to me at the moment, however one post suggests that it might be as simple as displaying the average level of players within each server. (I'm guessing there will probably be some sort of min / max level setting for servers as well but don't quote me on it.)
Will I be able to host my own server?
"We know for sure that we will have dedicated server support. We’ll announce more concerning server options and hosting as we get closer and closer to launch." Source
Will the game be open to the modding community?
"The game will not support any modding at launch" Source
Will there be a Beta?
Yes, there will be a closed and then open Beta. "If you keep your eyes on the forum, facebook page and twitter you'll be in in no time. The beta is still pretty far away."
What are the system requirements?
TBC
When will the game be released?
TBC (Sep/Oct - 2012.)
