Ik heb een vreemd probleem met het restoren van losse mail berichten bij mensen in een postvak. We draaien hier twee exchange server 2003 en 2007.

Windows 2003 32bit + Exchange 2003
Windows 2003 64bit R2 + Exchange 2007
Windows 2003 32bit + Backup exec 12D

Wanneer ik een backup draai van de exchange servers gaat dit zonder problemen en de data staat ook op de tape weg geschreven. Als ik een los bericht restore naar iemand met een postvak op de Exchange 2003 server komt die er netjes in te staan en de job staat op de complete. Wanneer ik dit doe op de Exchange 2007 server staat de restore job netjes op complete maar staat het bericht er niet.

In het logboek op de backup server is tevens geen foutmelding weer te vinden. Op de Exchange 2007 server kreeg ik de melding met eventid 917. Dit heb ik zonder veel problemen op te lossen door het onderstaande uit te voeren:

As part of the Microsoft continuing security initiatives, Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) introduces a behavior change designed to reduce the attack surface of the system. This change directly affects remote streaming backups on Windows Server 2003.

Note:
Remote streaming backups or restores are not supported on or from Windows Server 2008.

The release to manufacturing (RTM) version of Exchange Server 2007 has remote streaming backup enabled by default. This default configuration is less secure because it allows anyone in the domain with sufficient backup rights to back up a server that is running Exchange. Moreover, data that is backed up remotely is not encrypted, and the backup is often performed over a public (client-accessible) network.

To adhere to the Microsoft Secure by Default initiative, the remote streaming functionality disabled (server-wide) in Exchange 2007 SP1 is disabled by default. A manual override in the form of the following registry value must be enabled to restore this functionality:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem

Name: Enable Remote Streaming Backup

Type: DWORD

Value: 0 = default behavior (remote backup disabled); 1 = remote backup enabled

After entering the above registry value, restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store to apply the change by performing the following steps:

On a stand-alone server, open a Command Prompt window and run the following commands:
net stop msexchangeis
net start msexchangeis

Nu is dus de melding weg dat de backup niet toegestaan zou zijn. Tevens blijft de job op complete staan maar er staat nog niks in het postvak.

Een complete backup is in backup exec geen goed teken.
Hij moet succesfull zijn wil hij echt goed zijn werk hebben gedaan.

Heb je de registersleutel al aangepast en de services herstart?

Hij staat inderdaad gewoon op Succesfull. Ja de register sleutel is aangepast en de services zijn geherstart. Daarna heb ik ook geen melding meer gehad op de mail server in het logboek daar over.

Sorry vergeten te vermelden maar deze is reeds geinstalleerd.

Ik heb 11d 7170 dus zou het eigenljik niet echt meer weten, het lijkt allemaal goed te gaan.
